Plans & limits

Memento runs on your own Claude or OpenAI account, so we never charge you for tokens — your provider bills those directly. What a plan buys is capacity: how many spaces you keep, and how much agent work runs for you in a day.

What you're actually paying for

Every piece of agent work happens in a sandbox — a private machine that has to be running, with your library checked out on it, before anything can start. Keeping those warm and keeping your spaces stored is what costs us money, which is why Settings → Plan & usage describes the plan as covering spaces, agent runs and always-on sandboxes. Only two of those are numbers you ever have to think about: the spaces you keep and the agent runs you spend in a day. Sandbox time is not metered or charged separately — it is the thing the plan pays for, not a third allowance to watch.

What counts as an agent run

A run is one piece of work done by your agent in its sandbox. Each of these is one run, and they all count the same:

• Filing a capture from your inbox.
• One Edit mode turn in the assistant.
• One inline AI rewrite in the editor.
• A routine firing on its schedule.
• A weekly review, or a Planner scan you start yourself — one run per space scanned.

The unit is the agent job, not the amount of text involved — a run that rewrites one sentence and a run that reorganises twenty pages both count once. That is why Process all on your inbox is the cheap way to clear a backlog: the whole stack is filed in a single run rather than one per item. It still costs that one run.

What doesn't count

• Asking questions. Read-only mode in the assistant never touches your library and never uses a run — ask as much as you like. See The assistant.
• Browsing, searching, and reading pages.
• Editing a page yourself, by hand.
• Capturing something. Capture is free; the filing that follows is the run.
• Writing a task yourself, or ticking one off. Only scanning for tasks is a run.

The two plans

The sample space is the small demonstration library your account starts with. It sits outside the count on either plan, so a free account has a space of its own to fill from day one. Deleting the sample is fine — it just doesn't buy you another space, because it never occupied one.

There are no features behind the paywall. Routines, meeting capture, review, and export all work on the free plan — Pro exists because background work costs runs, and twenty a day goes quickly once a routine is firing every morning. The 200 is there to stop a runaway loop, not to ration normal use.

Trying Pro

Pro starts with a free trial. The price and the exact length are shown before you commit to anything — read them on Settings → Plan & usage, above the Upgrade to Pro button, not inside a checkout you have already opened.

Your card is taken up front and charged when the trial ends. While the trial runs, the page shows a Trial badge and the date you would first be billed, and you have the full Pro limits — a trial is a real Pro account, not a restricted one. Cancel before that date in the billing portal and you are not charged at all.

How the limit resets

The ceiling is a rolling 24 hours, not a calendar day: a run stops counting exactly 24 hours after it started, so there is no midnight reset to wait for. It is counted across all your spaces together, not per space.

You can see where you stand at any time under Settings → Plan & usage, which shows agent runs used in the last 24 hours against your limit.

When you run out

Anything you start yourself says so straight away, and nothing is lost. A capture you make at the limit still lands — it just waits instead of filing itself, marked Waiting in your inbox with the filing plan Memento already worked out and a File it now button. Filing it later costs one run, not two.

Routines are quieter: a scheduled run with no capacity is skipped, not queued, and picks up at its next scheduled time. If a morning brief doesn't arrive, an exhausted allowance is the first thing to check.

Nothing stops you reading, searching, asking questions, or editing by hand while you're at the limit.

If a subscription lapses

A Pro account that lapses falls back to free-plan limits — it is never emptied. Spaces you already made stay, and stay readable and editable, even above the free ceiling; you just can't create more until you're under it again. We don't delete anyone's library over a failed card.
